Open Water Diver Course

The Open Water Diver Course is your first step to becoming a certified scuba diver. Learn the essential skills, practice in confined water, and complete four open-water dives in Bali with a professional instructor.

Choose SSI or PADI certification, with a 2-day or 3-day course depending on your schedule and preferred learning pace.

  • Knowledge Development: Digital e-learning (completed before Day 1).
  • Confined Water: Pool training session to practice essential dive skills.
  • Open Water Dives: 4 required ocean dives under instructor supervision.
  • Class Ratio: You will join a small group with a personalized ratio of 2:1 to 3:1 students per instructor.

How the Open Water Diver Course Works

Learn the Theory

Start with your SSI or PADI learning materials and understand the fundamentals of scuba diving, including equipment, dive planning, safety, and underwater communication.

Build Your Skills

Practice essential scuba skills with your instructor in the pool/confined water until you’re comfortable using the equipment and performing the required skills.

Get Certified

Put your skills into practice during four open-water training dives at selected Bali dive sites such as Padang Bai or Tulamben. After successfully completing the course requirements, you’ll earn your SSI or PADI Open Water Diver certification.

2-Day Open Water Diver Course

Day 1

  • Pickup: Around 06:30 AM – 07:30 AM.
  • Theory & Pool Training: Review your theory and practice the required scuba skills at our dive center in Sanur.
    *SSI e-learning in the MySSI app or PADI online learning must be completed before arrival.
  • First Open Water Dive: Complete your first training dive after the pool session.
  • Finish: Around 05:00 PM – 06:00 PM.

Day 2

  • Pickup: Around 06:30 AM – 07:30 AM.
  • 3 Open Water Dives: Complete your remaining training dives and course requirements.
  • Dive Site: Training may take place at Tulamben or Padang Bai, depending on conditions and the course plan.
  • Finish: Around 05:00 PM – 06:00 PM.

3-Day Open Water Diver Course

Day 1

  • Pickup: Around 06:30 AM – 07:30 AM.
  • Theory & Pool Training: Review your theory and practice the required scuba skills at our dive center in Sanur.
    *SSI e-learning in the MySSI app or PADI online learning must be completed before arrival.
  • First Open Water Dive: Complete your first training dive after the pool session.
  • Finish: Around 05:00 PM – 06:00 PM.

Day 2

  • Pickup: Around 06:30 AM – 07:30 AM.
  • Travel to the planned dive site and complete 2 open-water dives.
  • Depending on the location, you may experience shore diving or a traditional Jukung boat ride.
  • Finish: Around 05:00 PM – 06:00 PM.

Day 3

  • Pickup: Around 06:30 AM – 07:30 AM.
  • Complete another 2 open-water dives and the remaining course activities.
  • Selected dive-site upgrades, including Nusa Penida, may be available depending on conditions.
  • Finish: Around 05:00 PM – 06:00 PM.

To participate in any scuba diving activities, you must be medically and physically fit, with no history of high-risk or respiratory issues. Chronic health conditions, certain medications, and/or recent surgeries may require you to provide written medical approval from a physician before diving. No-Fly Rule

Please plan your travel schedule carefully. You must not fly or travel to high altitudes after diving. Ensure you have a minimum of 18 hours of rest between your last dive and your flight.

OPEN WATER DIVER COURSE FAQs

No previous scuba diving experience is required. To complete your Open Water Diver certification, you need to be comfortable in the water, meet the required swimming and water-fitness skills, complete the theory and confined-water training, and successfully complete four open-water training dives. You’ll also need to complete a diving medical questionnaire before training.

No. The diving equipment required for your Open Water Diver Course is included. If you already have personal equipment you’d prefer to use, let us know when booking.

The PADI Open Water Course and SSI Open Water Course fee includes training, equipment rental, dive trips, return transportation to the accommodation and certification costs. It’s an all-inclusive package designed to get you certified without surprise expenses.

While the PADI Open Water Diver and SSI Open Water Diver Course certification equips you with the skills for safe diving practices, there are other options than solo diving. We advocate for diving with a buddy to ensure safety and enjoyment for all underwater adventures.

Everyone learns at a different pace. Your instructor will work with you throughout the course and make sure you understand and can perform the required skills before progressing. If additional training time is needed, we’ll discuss the available options with you.

Open-water training dives are normally conducted at suitable beginner dive sites around Padang Bai or Tulamben, depending on conditions and the course schedule. These locations give students the opportunity to practice their skills while experiencing Bali’s marine life. Other dive-site options may be available as an upgrade depending on experience, course progress, and sea conditions.

Our open water diver course in Bali begins with theory lessons, progresses to confined water skill development and practice, and finishes with four guided open water dives. We follow this proven step-by-step training structure to help beginners gradually gain confidence, master essential techniques, and complete their internationally recognized scuba certification safely, effectively, and at a comfortable pace.
