Nusa Penida is a small island located in the southeast of Bali island and separated by Badung Strait. Near this island, there are 2 other small islands, namely the island of Nusa Lembongan and the island of Nusa Ceningan. Nusa Penida can be reached by speedboat for 45 minutes from Sanur.  Tourist attraction in Nusa Penida, Bali lies in marine tourism.

One of the most popular tourism activities in Nusa Penida, Bali is scuba diving. In addition, marine life is still natural and preserved, such as coral reefs and the rare Mola – Mola fish. June until October is Mola – Mola Season but all year round you can see Manta Rays.

Nusa Penida Dive Sites

Manta Point

Manta Point is one of the most popular dive sites in Nusa Penida, It is located in the Southeast of Nusa Penida, Manta Point has strong waves because of the Indian Ocean and Indonesian Through-Flow that continuously beat the coast, It’s perfect to rehearse your buoyancy. At Manta Point the water’s temperature ranges from 20-24⁰ C and is rich with plankton so it attracts Manta Rays to come. Manta Rays can be seen at a depth of 7 meters of water. The mantas are swimming around the rock and are waiting to be cleaned by the smaller fish.

Several types of Manta have a wingspan of more than 3 meters and all have very unique motifs with black, gray, and white colors on the wings on the underside which makes identification easier. You can see Manta Rays up close, it’s a good opportunity for underwater photography. 

Crystal Bay

The divers can enjoy crystal-clear waters and great visibility in Crystal Bay. The Big waves and accompanied by a beautiful white sand beach, It makes it look like a slice of heaven. Crystal Bay is a famous dive site to observe the giant Sunfish also called Mola mola. During the dry season Mola – Mola likes to “sunbathe” in shallow waters which makes them also called sunfish. This fish measuring about 3 meters high, swims from the deep sea to be cleaned by bannerfish. However, the best time to see these amazing fish is from June until October.

Toya Pakeh

The location of Toya Pakeh is in the Northwest of the island of Nusa Penida, the port is bordered and adjacent to Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan. The most frequent here are drift dives which will take divers across a multitude of incredible marine and coral life. At a depth of six meters, divers can see soft coral reefs and hard corals that thrive and are beautiful. Divers will dive through underwater coral gardens (Coral Gardens) and divers can see schools of fish swimming into the current. Fish commonly seen at Toya Pakeh include bluetooth triggerfish, sweetlips, fusiliers, jackfish, trevallies, bannerfish, porcupines and scorpionfish, moray eels, trumpetfish, puffers and rays, turtles, stonefish, angelfish, clownfish, sea snake, nudibranch, batfish, and barracuda, this is a real pleasure for divers who love underwater world and photographs.

SD Point

SD Point is another dive site in Nusa Penida, in this area, which is an area for seaweed farmers, the area has white sand beaches, presenting beautiful natural scenery. In the depth of 5 meters you can already see the beauty of the coral reefs, because the seawater is clear, it is suitable for non-certified divers. This dive site is indeed rich in underwater biota, you can find various species of fish here such as Mola-mola, Napoleon Wrasse, Damselfish, Pufferfish, Scorpion Fish, and Parrotfish.
