Tulamben, many divers know this place as one of Bali dive sites. One of the must-visit locations for divers when they are going to Bali. In high seasons, hundreds of divers dive at Tulamben each day. Tulamben is famous for the USAT Liberty Shipwreck just a bit offshore and can be seen even 5 meters deep.
Tulamben itself is the name of a village, located in Karangasem Regency on the east of Bali. Famous for their smooth stones beaches, not sandy. The name Tulamben originally was batulambih which means “many stones” in the local language. Therefore, the name Tulamben was inspired by how the beaches in the village look. Now Tulamben is thriving thanks to being one of Bali’s best dive sites.
USAT LIBERTY SHIPWRECK
The main attraction for divers to see in Tulamben, the USAT Liberty shipwreck also holds her own history. The USAT Liberty serves the United States of America from World War I and World War II as cargo transportation. During World War II, a Japanese submarine torpedoed USAT Liberty near the Lombok Strait. The ship finally stops at the shore of Tulamben.
Before being a diving site, the ship rested for 20 years on the shore of Tulamben. Afterwards, in 1963 the tremors from Mount Agung eruption caused the ship to slip off from the shore to the sea. The shipwreck can be found just 25 meters from shore, resting between 5 meters to 30 meters deep. Thus, making the USAT Liberty shipwreck one of the easiest wrecks to dive in Bali, even the world. From beginners to experienced divers, all can enjoy this famous Bali Dive Site.
